Last French post in southern Ontario

Site of Fort Rouille, commonly known as Fort Toronto, built 1750 - 51 by Lake Ontario.

It was intended to strengthen French control of the Great Lakes and capture fur trade of First Nations en route to Oswego.

Destroyed by its garrison in 1759, the year General James Wolfe won Canada for the English after defeating the French in Quebec.

The red roof of the restaurant Gossip is visible in the background. I went there with my Dad for coffee. The CN Tower is visible behind Gossip in the distance.
